Biography of Famous Business News Anchor Maria Bartiromo

Maria Bartiromo born on September 11th, 1967 in Brooklyn, New York is a famous business news anchor and a well-known feature writer for numerous business magazines and journals.

Maria Bartiromo grew up in the Bay Ridge region of South Brooklyn. While pursuing her high school studies, Maria worked as a coat checker at her parents' Italian restaurant. She later graduated in Journalism with a minor in economics from New York University. Soon after her graduation, Maria Bartiromo joined CNN Business News in 1988. For the first eight or nine months as an intern Maria Bartiromo learnt all the basics and secrets of news anchoring on television. Bartiromo was finally hired full time by the CNN where she worked for five years on their business news as a writer, assignment editor and producer.

Having gained enough experience at CNN, Maria Bartiromo later joined CNBC in 1993. Maria Bartiromo became the anchor for CNBC's "Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo" that is aired from Monday to Friday from 3 pm to 5 pm. Besides being a TV anchor for "Closing Bell", Maria Bartiromo was also the host and managing editor of "Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo" which is a nationally syndicated financial, business and economic news program produced by CNBC with the inputs from the editors of The Wall Street Journal. "Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo" is known for its in-depth analysis and insights on the goings-on at the Wall Street. This 30-minute weekly program anchored by Maria Bartiromo has become the most watched business and financial news program in America. Since 1995, Maria Bartiromo has been anchoring a live program called "Squawk Box" reporting live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. As CNBC's TV anchor, Maria Bartiromo quickly became a national phenomenon with her powerful presentation of TV news.

Besides television anchoring Maria Bartiromo also writes a weekly column "Face Time with Maria Bartiromo" in BusinessWeek; and contributes to a weekly column a leading Italian financial newspaper, Milano Finanza. She contributes to monthly columns in Ticker, Individual Investor, and Readers Digest. Bartiromo also writes regularly for Newsweek, Financial Times, Registered Rep, Town and Country, and New York Post. She has also authored a book "Use the News: How to Separate the Noise from the Investment Nuggets and Make Money in Any Economy" in June 2001. The book became the bestseller in US.

Maria Bartiromo has won numerous awards for her excellence in TV news reporting and TV news anchoring. Bartiromo was nominated for 1996 CableACE Award for her three-part series on the Internet and its implications for investors. The following year she received the 1997 Coalition of Italo-American Associations' Excellence in Broadcast Journalism Award. Maria was also nominated for 2002 Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism for her piece on the widows of September 11. She received the 2004 The Union League of Philadelphia’s prestigious Lincoln Statue Award for her significant contributions to the United States of America. Maria Bartiromo also received 2008 Gracie Award in the category of Outstanding Documentary for her documentary “Greenspan: Power, Money & the American Dream."

Maria Bartiromo also holds distinguished positions on many a board of trustees. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of New York University from which she graduated in late '80s. Bartiromo is also a member of The Wharton Leadership Advisory Board; a member of the Board of Governors of the Columbus Citizens Foundation; one of the Board of Directors of the New York City Ballet; a member on the board of the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York; Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum; PENCIL, Public Education Needs Civic Involvement and Leadership, which focuses on improving New York high schools.

Maria Bartiromo, on June 13th 1999 married Jonathan Steinberg, the Founder and CEO of WisdomTree Investments, a financial investment services company in Manhattan. Jonathan is the son of investor Saul Steinberg.
